So for those of you who have been hanging out here for a while, you already know what I am after in this life. What I want for our world is very simple. I want a lighter, more playful world. A society in which laughter outpaces negativity, pessimism and stress. A culture in which the spirit of freedom and buoyancy is the accepted and practiced norm personally and professionally. A global community that convenes through a deeply interconnected joy.
It was in the last couple of years that I really asked myself, “Katie, what can you do to add something to our world?” This shift is what I came up with. (My friend is an astrophysicist, so I figured he had that role all covered so I could focus on levity and laughter-ha ha!)
I looked at what my skills and passions were and I realized that what I do well is bring a sense of joy and play to my every day life. It does not mean that I have the world’s largest pair of rose colored glasses plastered to my face (though that would be extra cool looking), but it does mean that I vow to do my best to allow what is challenging or hard to wash over me and also allow the inspiration, the fun, and the possible to come into me every day.
I believe that above all, it is a feeling of lightness or inner light-heartedness that matters most. By embracing our spirit of lightness we are not denying our depths, we are honoring them. By expressing our lightness and buoyancy, we are offering our deep gratitude for being alive. Regardless of what life is doling out on any particular day, life is worthy of celebration.
To help create this shift, I work with people as a levity coach and a laughter coach one on one and in small groups. I also speak to audiences and lead laughter yoga sessions. And we have a blast! And what I realized in my work with individuals and small groups is that I also wanted to bring people together in mass to effect even greater change. This is how The Levity Project began.
What is The Levity Project?
It is a social movement with the mission of fostering more playfulness, laughter, and buoyancy in our world. To do this, I blog here, give talks about it, and organize public acts of levity. The public acts are most striking because their goal is to infuse a location and the people in it with levity and laughter so that the shift in energy is palpable. And it is. When a group from The Levity Project enters a space doing a spontaneous Laughter Flash, an Umbrella Hat Freeze Party, or one of our other fun moments, what I always feel at the end, is that the world feels slightly different.
“When we laugh, we change. And when we change, the world around us changes.”
Dr. Kataria, Founder of Laughter Yoga

- Spontaneous Group Laughter
It is my wildest dream that you all will join me, spread the word get others to join together to spread this word that the world is changing. And we are all changing together to create a lighter, more playful, and buoyant world. The world will never be the same if we all stick together to see the change through. If you are interested in becoming involved with The Levity Project, contact me. Or if you have other ideas, know of sponsorships or cool people who might dig this idea, send an email.
I would love to see The Levity Project events in states throughout the US and countries throughout the world with the goal of raising our awareness that a little levity goes a long way towards our own health, our ability to be successful, and in creating a global consciousness shift.
After all, look at these shots of people looking on at the last Laughter Flash.

The Levity Project allows both the participants and the observers to emerge into their own unique energy which is undoubtedly vibrant, gorgeous and radiant. Join us for our upcoming events (to be posted this week) or request an event in your area,or get trained with Katie to become a leader and spread the word. And the best of all is to allow laughter and levity to trickle into your life so that it flows through you and into someone else. In this way, I believe we can bring change to the world.
Peace and Laughter,
Katie

Katie Woohohoo!
You spreading your cheer all over!
And that most definitely DOES bring change to the world. Then just think about how far it can spread – farther than you even envision! You’ve touched people in such good ways, and that will propel many of them to bring a little more levity to wherever they go…and so on and so forth! WOW!
Katie, I’m there with you! This is the real deal! Laughter and joy bring people together…in magical ways!
Keep on changing the world…one laugh, one person, one day at a time!
Rock On Katie!!
I absolutely love what you’re about, Katie, and when I read your words I felt really good. I felt inspired about the world’s – and especially my own – future. I thought, “There are people out there like Katie who want to embrace and share joy, love and laughter every day…” Laughter is contagious, and my wish is that what you’re doing spreads throughout the world like a cough at daycare. (smile) Only more healthy-like!
There is something beautiful about someone laughing in a photo. The way their exuberance shines through.
I did a bit of laughing to myself while on a break at work. My mood increased and I felt more energized. It works.
Thanks Katie.
Katie,
This is so fun. If everyone lightened up there would be no more people in a hurry, filled with worry racing somewhere all the time.
I agree we all need more happiness, laughter, light and joy that overpowers all negativity in the world. Imagine surfing TV or the web and finding nothing but that. What would people complain about? Or would all be so happy that would end too?
Hi Katie,
Do I resonate with your Levity Project. Your work is so very important! It brings us into a state of grace where the fire can burn, the fire of praise, love and gratitude. Laughter, joy, humor are the spice of life and is our true state of being. I believe it is a state of grace because our spirit expands and grows in levity and joy and dims without it.
I have worked with children and their families and caretakers teaching how to play. It is the work of the child and we are to become like children so Katie, thank you so much for doing the work of God on our glorious planet. Bless you!
