“The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions – the little, soon-forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a heart-felt compliment, and the countless infinitesimals of pleasurable and genial feeling” ~ Samuel Taylor Coleridge
I keep a rubber duck by my desk.
Wow!! Do I seem a little weird, all of a sudden?
At first glance, might you wonder what that means? Why the rubber duck? Am I hoping to re-live my childhood right there at my desk? Do I have visions of bubble baths? Do I dream of being a kid? Do I live in some sort of child-like world? Have I completely lost it?
Or…maybe there's something of greater significance…
I can't come here today and fully explain just what this little rubber duck means. I can't, because you wouldn't fully understand.
Huh?
Sometimes we have things in our lives which have special meaning. Maybe that is special meaning between you and another person. Or a group of persons. Or maybe just for you alone this "something" is special. And that can't be fully explained without losing something in the translation…and perhaps without taking something away from the deeper meaning this has for you.
You know, though, what that special meaning is. And it makes you smile. Or maybe it helps you to think back to some significant point in your life. Or maybe to recall a special person in your life.
So…it may look weird, strange, a bit "out there"… So what!!
I do have a rubber duck at my desk. And it makes me smile when I think about that duck, and what it means today, and what it meant the day I got this rubber duck.
So, I find inspiration in this little rubber toy I keep. If I'm feeling a bit down – that duck can cheer me up! If I'm celebrating life – that duck just adds extra zing to my own little party!
How about you? Do you have something in your life that elicits special thoughts? It could be anything, really. A thing, a person, even a thought – that can bring you "back to center", put a smile on your face, give you a lift just when you need it, and jump for joy with you in moments of celebration!
I think we all have these – things, people, thoughts – that put big smiles on our face. Remember some of these today – and let that smile in you shine big, beautiful, and full of love!

Ha, I love this Lance!
And weird? No, you just got more normal
Normal the way we should all be and have fun little quirks in our life that makes us smile, that make us laugh, that make us feel good and just make us, US. So way to go!
As for me… well last summer when we were visiting this little gift shop there, was this stuffed animal with these really big eyes (they are a famous collection for these huge eyes, not sure if you ever saw them) but anyway, we don’t have kids or anything, but we bought it anyway. The one we got is some sort of an orange bug, perhaps an ant. Anyway his name is “Archie” and he sits in our bedroom, and just one look at him and I have a huge smile on my face

Evita,
Hey, quirky works for me!!!
And you know…I think I have seen these stuffed animals with the great big buggy eyes!! Very fun!! And – Archie!!! All of a sudden, that’s reminding me of reading comic books as a kids (Archie and Veronica…). Back on subject here, though…(see…YOU took me down ol’ memory lane just with the mention of that name!) – Archie, while not something you NEED, is something that provides that little extra something – a smile…whenever you need it!! Thanks for sharing your story, Evita!!
